Prescription Drug Addiction Program Sober Living

Sober living facilities are one alternative to the use of intensive inpatient treatment programs, however, for sober living environments to be effective the person must have a strong desire to get and stay sober. The earlier that a person is able to find help for an alcohol or drug problem, the better. Sober living environments are suitable for all types of drug addiction, and work especially well for prescription drug abuse because it provides a structured environment in which access to prescription drugs is highly unlikely.

In sober living environments house members are subject to random drug tests to ensure the integrity of each person’s commitment to the program. Generally sober livings require house members to attend weekly meetings in which they are able to share about their week as well as about any concerns they might have about the living environment.

Some treatment facilities have sober livings on their immediate premise, and still others have strong relations with sober living facilities in the area. During the aftercare process at a treatment facility, it is usually suggested that patients find some type of transitional program such as a sober living in order to learn how to live in recovery.

Other recovering addicts often run sober livings with more experience living without drugs and alcohol. These people have resources related to 12-step groups and other sober activities and are able to help newly sober people with questions or problems. Sober livings provide a safe, nurturing environment in which people can express their feelings and talk about their experiences to help one another. Often some of the strongest relationships are made during early sobriety when people are relating and learning with one another.
